Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB), also known as Baden-Airpark, is around 14 km / 9 miles west of the famous German spa town Baden-Baden and 45 km / 30 miles south of Karlsruhe. Baden-Airpark is only used by low-cost airlines meaning generally cheap tickets, low airfares, and flights mostly to holiday destinations.
Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB) is inside the Baden-Airpark – a business and industrial park, which also has an 18-hole golf course and ice-skating rink. Both these sport facilities as well as the airport itself are legacies left by the Canadian military that used the airport from 1953 to 1993.
The military origins means the 3,300-m (10,800-ft) runway is hard to fault. The world’s largest aircraft, the six-engine Antonov AN225, has landed here and the airport is used for training flights with various aircraft including Boeing 747s.
The modern terminal building is rather basic but can handle up to 1.5 million annual passengers. Services include a beer garden and outdoor playground for small children. In 2007, 980,000 passengers used Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport – a 17% increase over 2006.
Currently, only low-cost airlines fly from Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB). The main airlines with a presence at Baden-Airpark are Hamburg International, Ryanair, TUIfly, and Air Berlin.
German low-cost airline Air Berlin (AB) has non-stop flights from Baden-Airpark only to Berlin-Tegel (TXL) and Hamburg (HAM). However, in contrast to most European low-cost airlines, Air Berlin offers guaranteed connection flights. Connection flights can be booked on Air Berlin from Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden via Berlin-Tegel (TXL) to Copenhagen, Göteborg, Helsinki, London-Stansted, Moscow (DME), St Petersburg, Stockholm (ARN), and Vienna, and via Hamburg (HAM) to Manchester.

The availability of public transportation from Baden Airpark depends on the day and time of arrival.
Germany has many airports but the best alternatives to Baden-Airpark are Stuttgart Airport (STR), which actually owns most of FKB, and Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) with its huge number of intercontinental flights.
