Low cost carriers offer services to Ciampino and Fiumicino airports from across Europe - travellers should be aware of the public transport connections for each.

Rome, Italy, is understandably one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations. Therefore it comes as no surprise to learn that airlines fly there from across the world, and that the budget airlines also fly there, offering cheap flights from destinations across Europe.

Rome Airports: Ciampino and Fiumicino

It’s not quite as simple as flying into Rome airport, however. The Italian capital has two airports, and some airlines go to Fiumicino (also known as Leonardo Da Vinci airport) while others go to Ciampino. Knowing which flights go to which is pretty important when it comes to getting into the city.

Transport from Rome Ciampino airport

Ciampino is the closest airport to the centre of Rome, but it’s harder to get to and from. The cheapest way is getting the Terravision bus, which is timed to coincide with arrivals and departures. That drops passengers off at the Termini station in central Rome.

Transport from Rome Fiumicino airport

Fiumicino (or Leonardo da Vinci) is the biggest airport and is slightly further out, to the south-west of the city centre. However, there is a train station there, and a relatively quick train line heads straight into the centre, passing through Termini.
