Rostock Airport (RLG) is on the German Baltic Coast. Air Berlin, OLT, and charter airlines offer cheap ticket and low fares on European flights including Cologne, Munich.

Where is Rostock?

Rostock Airport (RLG) is a small regional around 30 km (20 miles) south of Rostock. Rostock is a Baltic Sea town on the Warnow River with the largest harbor in the former East Germany. In recent years, it has become a popular stop for many cruise liners, as it is the closest port for excursions to Berlin.

Rostock has a beautifully restored old town with impressive facades and a few brick Gothic churches. Nearby Bad Doberan has a magical brick Gothic church. Heiligendamm, a small Baltic sea resort dominated by the very posh Kempinski Hotel Heiligendamm Resort, hosted the G8 meeting in 2007. It was a special event for Rostock Airport too – the planes of the top world leaders, including Air Force One, arrived at this minor airport from where the world’s powerful was helicoptered to Heiligendamm.

Baltic coast resorts of Mecklenburg West Pomerania are increasingly popular with especially families who enjoy the lower prices and less extreme heat in comparison to summer on a Mediterranean beach. The sea is calm (and mostly cold) but the atmosphere is relaxed and most resorts reasonably uncrowded.

Rostock is also a major departure point for ferries to Scandinavian destinations including Gedser in Denmark, Trelleborg in Sweden, and Helsinki in Finland.

Who Flies to Rostock?

Rostock is a small regional airport. The main airlines active here are low-cost carriers Air Berlin and Germanwings, regional airline OLT, and charter flights to holiday destinations in southern Europe.

Cheap Flights to Rostock Airport (RLG) on Low-Cost Airline Air Berlin

Germany’s favorite budget airline, Air Berlin, flies to the most destinations from Rostock Airport (RLG). Air Berlin flies four times per week to Palma de Mallorca (PMI), and once a week to Antalya (AYT), Heraklion (HER), Nuremberg (Nürnberg / NUE), Rhodes (RHO), and Zurich (ZRH). In contrast to most low-cost airlines, Air Berlin offers guaranteed connections via its hubs at Nuremberg and Palma de Mallorca.

Cheap Flights to Rostock Airport (RLG) on Low-Cost Airline Germanwings

Germanwings flies from Rostock-Laage (RLG) to its hub at Cologne/Köln-Bonn Airport (CGN). Germanwings offers guarenteed connections through Köln-Bonn to several further destinations in Europe.

Cheap Flights to Rostock Airport (RLG) on Regional Airline OLT

Ostfriesische Lufttransport (OLT) flies three times per week to Cologne/Bonn (CGN) and twice daily on weekdays to Munich (MUC).

Cheap Charter Flights from Rostock Airport (RLG)

During the summer holiday season Bulgarian Air Charter (BUC) has weekly flights to Varna and Burgas in Bulgaria, Sun Express flies twice weekly to Antalya (AYT) in Turkey, and Tunis Air flies weekly to Monastir.

Getting to Rostock Airport

Regionalverkehr Küste (RVK) Bus line 127 connects Rostock Airport with Rostock Central Bus Station (ZOB). Bus departure times are coordinated with flight times. Tickets are €8.60 one-way.

Taxis from Rostock to the Airport are around €40 and takes just over half an hour.

The closest railway stations are Rostock (30 km), Güstrow (20 km) und Laage (10 km)

By car, use autobahn A19 (Rostock to Berlin), exit Laage. Autobahn A20, which is convenient for connections to all Baltic towns from Lübeck to Stralsund, crosses the A19 between the airport and Rostock.

  • Flights to Rostock too limited or from the wrong destinations? Try other airports in Northern Germany or any of the growing number of German airports popular with especially low-cost airlines – Lübeck and airports in Berlin are the most logical alternatives.
