Munich Airport (MUC) in Bavaria, Germany has direct intercontinental flights from the USA, Canada, the Caribbean, Africa, and Asia on Lufthansa and other airlines.
Most flights from Bavaria’s Munich Airport (MUC) are to European destinations. However, the number of non-stop intercontinental flights is expanding with several airlines offering long-distance flights directly to Munich Airport in the south of Germany.
German full-service airline Lufthansa has not surprisingly the largest number of intercontinental flights to Munich Airport. Lufthansa currently flies non-stop from Munich to Beijing, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago-O'Hare, Delhi, Denver, Dubai, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Montréal, New York-JFK, Newark, San Francisco, São Paulo-Guarulhos, Seoul-Incheon, Shanghai-Pudong, Shenyang, Singapore, Tokyo-Narita, and Washington-Dulles.
Most of Lufthansa’s intercontinental flights are to Frankfurt International Airport (FRA). However, overcrowding here and delays in construction of a third runway at Frankfurt could mean more direct flights to both Munich and Düsseldorf Airports in the near future.
LTU International, one of the safest airlines in the world, has been flying since the 1950s. Originally a charter airline, it became a regular airline in recent years. In 2007, LTU was bought by German low-cost airline Air Berlin. It is expected that the brand name LTU will survive on long-distance flights due to LTU’s excellent safety and service records.
LTU’s main base is at Düsseldorf Airport but it flies intercontinental from Munich Airport (MUC) to Aruba, Bangkok-Suvarnabhumi, Cancun, Cape Town, Colombo, Fort Myers, Male, Miami, Phuket, Port Louis, Puerto Plata, Punta Cana, Vancouver, Varadero, and Windhoek.
Most other flights to North America are seasonal and only operate during summer.
